SOUNDTRACK: Fire & Gasoline
A boy I dated in Arkansas had an adorable way of saying “be careful.” To understand the magic of it, you have to know how Arkansan he was, to his toes, to his bones. Not only did he have a truck he actually needed, and hair like a blonde Jesus and bright blue eyes and a warm, shy smile, but he had a perfect southern accent. And if I did anything that warranted a reminder, he’d say “easy, easy.” Imagine that slow, calm, kind, a country lilt around the letters. It’s been well over a decade since I’ve heard his voice, but this repetition I can wrap around myself easily.
